Basketball Recap: Griffith Takes a Loss

Griffith easily dispatched Whiting two weeks ago, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Griffith Panthers fell just short of the Hanover Central Wildcats by a score of 47-45 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Panthers have suffered since December 2, 2023.

Despite the loss, Griffith still got an impressive performance from Morgan Von Ogden, who went 6 of 11 en route to 19 points and seven rebounds. The match was Von Ogden's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Esquivel, who posted eight points and three steals.

Hanover Central got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Bridget Noel out in front who put up 13 points and eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Sienna Stilley, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds.

Griffith's loss dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Hanover Central, their victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-5.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Highland the next time they take the court. Griffith will head out to face Highland at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, while Hanover Central will play them later in the day, at 9:00 a.m.
