Football Recap: Dynamic Duo of Malachi Gant and Zyon Hailey Lead Chambers to Victory + How To Watch

Chambers played in-conference for the first time on Friday and got just the result they were looking for. They took down the North Mecklenburg Vikings 21-6. The win was some much needed relief for the Cougars as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

A big part of Chambers' victory came down to the chemistry between Zyon Hailey and his top target Malachi Gant. Hailey threw for 111 yards and a pair of TDs while Gant gained 108 total yards. What's more, Hailey racked up 134.9 passer rating, the most he's had since back in October of 2024.

Chambers' defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for five sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as five different players picked up one apiece. Another thorn in North Mecklenburg's side was Williams, who picked up a sack, made ten total tackles, and defended one pass.

The win got Chambers back to even at 4-4. As for North Mecklenburg, they dropped their record down to 3-5 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Chambers and North Mecklenburg could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. The Cougars (ranked 60th) will meet West Charlotte (ranked fourth) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, North Mecklenburg will take on Independence at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (129 vs. 9).
