Volleyball Recap: Mt. Carmel Takes a Loss

Mt. Carmel came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against the San Marcos Knights, falling 3-0. The Sundevils were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Knights earlier this season, when they won 3-2.

Mt. Carmel was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the third set very close. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 25-18, 25-22.

Their offense was headlined by Jacob Maxfield and Omar Berrios, who picked up seven kills apiece. They got some help from Octavio Dy III and his 15 assists. James Lewis and Jediah Feng kept things locked in from the service line: the pair finished with two aces apiece.

Mt. Carmel has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 12 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-15 record this season. As for San Marcos, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.

Looking ahead, Mt. Carmel will welcome Rancho Bernardo at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Sundevils are facing the Broncos at the right time seeing as the Broncos are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for San Marcos, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 win against Mission Hills on the 9th.
