The Alexandria City Titans will face off against the Fairfax Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
On Friday, Alexandria City came up short against South County and fell 24-17. The loss continues a trend for the Titans in their meetings with the Stallions: they've now lost nine in a row.
The match pitted two dominant signal callers against one another in Alpha Jalloh and Dylan Miller. Miller had a great game and threw for 229 yards and two TDs. Meanwhile, Jalloh was balling out in the loss, rushing for 139 yards and one touchdown.
Most of the squad's points came courtesy of special teams, who contributed 11 in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Jamar Cannon, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Fairfax strolled past Woodson with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 24-6. The victory continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Cavaliers: they've now won six in a row.
Alexandria City better keep an eye on Daryn Caesar. He was instrumental in Fairfax's win, rushing for 127 yards and one score while picking up 7.5 yards per carry. Those 127 rushing yards gave Caesar a new career-high.
Fairfax's run defense was locked in: Woodson could only muster 3.2 yards per carry. The Lions' run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 4.83 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 5.2 on average over their last five games.
Fairfax didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jashon Payne and Nathan Hurley.
The win got Fairfax back to even at 5-5. As for Alexandria City, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 5-5.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Alexandria City has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 192.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Fairfax struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 187.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Alexandria City couldn't quite get it done against Fairfax in their previous matchup back in October as they fell 14-7. Can the Titans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
