Volleyball Recap: Jacy Jones Leads a Balanced Effort to Beat Southampton Academy

There's no place like home for Isle of Wight Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Southampton Academy Raiders by a score of 3-1 on Wednesday. The win continues a trend for the Chargers in their matchups with the Raiders: they've now won four in a row.

Isle of Wight Academy had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 24-26, 25-21, 26-24, 27-25.

Isle of Wight Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jacy Jones, who had 22 digs and two aces. What's more, Jones posted three kills, the most she's had over her last four matches. The team also got some help courtesy of Camryn Williams, who had ten digs and three aces.

They weren't the only good server: Isle of Wight Academy was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 15 aces. They served two more aces than Southampton Academy's also-impressive total of 13.

Ali Turner and Kelsey Braun certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. Turner had 24 assists and two blocks, while Braun had three digs and two aces. With that strong performance, Turner is now averaging an impressive 12.5 assists per game. Another player making a difference was Audrey Sawyer, who had ten digs.

Isle of Wight Academy's record is now 5-7. As for Southampton Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-8-1 record this season.

Coincidentally, Isle of Wight Academy and Southampton Academy will both be playing Brunswick Academy the next time they take the court. The Raiders will host the Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Chargers will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
