Baseball Game Preview: West Wilkes Blackhawks vs. East Wilkes Cardinals

The West Wilkes Blackhawks will challenge the East Wilkes Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

West Wilkes is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to ten runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against East Surry on Thursday. They fell just short of the Cardinals by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Blackhawks have suffered since March 4, 2024.

Meanwhile, while East Wilkes put up plenty of runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Alleghany. The Cardinals were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over the Trojans. The Cardinals have beaten the Trojans the last seven times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Trojans has come to flipping the script.

Alleghany's batters probably weren't too happy with Praden Hatley, who pitched a no hitter and racked up seven Ks (he gave up two walks).

East Wilkes pushed their record up to 11-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for West Wilkes, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season.

West Wilkes came up short against East Wilkes when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 9-6. Can the Blackhawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
