Baseball Game Preview: Evangelical Christian Eagles vs. Covington Chargers

The Evangelical Christian Eagles will take on the Covington Chargers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Evangelical Christian's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 12-0 margin over Scotts Hill. With that win, the Eagles brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.

Caiden Caldera made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

In other batting news, Banks Addison was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Jack Gates, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Evangelical Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Scotts Hill only posted a batting average of .167.

Meanwhile, Covington made easy work of Scotts Hill on Wednesday and carried off a 15-6 victory.

Covington now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Evangelical Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.

Evangelical Christian took their win against Covington when the teams last played back in March of 2017 by a conclusive 13-3. Will Evangelical Christian repeat their success, or does Covington have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
