Softball Game Preview: Sierra Chieftains vs. Fresno Christian Eagles

The Sierra Chieftains will head out to square off against the Fresno Christian Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sierra will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.

Sierra had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt Yosemite on Friday. The Chieftains blew past the Badgers 17-4. Considering the Chieftains have won six matches by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Sierra let Abby Bays and Naliyah Gibson run wild. Bays got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base, while Gibson went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs Gibson has posted since back in February. Taylah Gibson was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Sierra always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .692. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive games.

Fresno Christian played against Riverdale on Thursday and lost via forfeit.

Fresno Christian is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-9. As for Sierra, their victory bumped their record up to 10-8.

Sierra came out on top in a nail-biter against Fresno Christian in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Chieftains since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
