Basketball Recap: New Covenant Takes Down Christ Chapel Academy in a Playoff Battle

New Covenant had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. Everything went their way against Christ Chapel Academy on Tuesday as the New Covenant Gryphons made off with a 65-41 win. The Gryphons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 matches by 22 points or more this season.

New Covenant's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rusty Hooks, who went 5-for-9 on his way to 17 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucas Gorman, who posted 15 points and six assists.

New Covenant was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They are 18-5 when they've passed the ball that well.

Christ Chapel Academy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Richaun Martin, who scored 15 points, and David Neaves, who had 13 points.

New Covenant is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.4 points over those games. Christ Chapel Academy's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 11-14.

New Covenant wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 59-45 defeat against The Carmel School on the 26th. Christ Chapel Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
