Softball Preview: Lincoln Abes vs. Silas Rams
Lincoln hasn't had much luck against Silas recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Abes will venture away from home to take on the Rams at 4:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Lincoln took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 16-8 margin over Mount Tahoma. The Abes haven't had any issues with the T-Birds recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Silas came out on top against Bellarmine Prep on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run sixth inning. The Rams walked away with a 14-10 victory over the Lions.
Natalie Medalia was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.
In other batting news, Silas got a big performance out of Nevaeh Rodriguez, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Claire Walsh, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Silas kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Lincoln pushed their record up to 5-10 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.8 runs over those games. As for Silas, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
