Baseball Recap: South Eugene Wins Going Away Against Springfield

South Eugene won against Gresham last Tuesday with 11 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. South Eugene was the clear victor by an 11-1 margin over the Springfield Millers. The Axe have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Millers, too.

Charlie Binstadt was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Binstadt was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Gino Humphrey was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Andrew Roadman, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

South Eugene always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Springfield only posted an OBP of .240.

The win made it two in a row for South Eugene and bumps their season record up to 2-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Springfield, they dropped their record down to 1-4 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Eugene will venture away from home to face off against Sprague at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Springfield, they are packing up and heading out for their first away game of the season: they will take on Corvallis at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
