Basketball Recap: Palo Verde Valley Snags Third Win in Last Four Games

If Southwest EC wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Palo Verde Valley, they should've done a better job of containing Zaraivion Crowe. The Palo Verde Valley Yellow Jackets managed a 69-63 victory over the Southwest EC Eagles on Friday thanks in part to Crowe, who dropped a double-double on 34 points and 13 boards. He has been hot for a while, having posted 15 or more points the last 12 times he's played.

Yasias Green was another key player, putting up a point along with five assists, five rebounds, and five blocks. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in blocks.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jonathan Gracia, who went 7 of 9 on his way to 14 points and eight boards. Gabriel Gonzalez also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Palo Verde Valley is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-12 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 28.3% in those games and 24% outside of them. As for Southwest EC, they dropped their record down to 4-16 with the defeat, which was their 17th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Palo Verde Valley will face off against Brawley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Brawley will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Palo Verde Valley surely won't give up without a fight. As for Southwest EC, they will take on Holtville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Southwest EC is facing Holtville at the right time seeing as Holtville is stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
