Softball Recap: Del Norte's Winning Streak Snapped at Four Games

Del Norte dropped their record down to 10-7-1 on Friday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Poway Titans by a score of 4-3. If the Nighthawks were looking for revenge after losing 6-5 to the Titans when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Alexis Kyles made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Carissa Camaclang, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

As for Poway, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games.

On Poway's side, Mya McGowan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks. McGowan has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sophia Burmeister, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Menges, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

Del Norte and Poway will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next contests. The next time the Nighthawks see the field they'll take on Mission Hills at 6:30 p.m. on the 23rd. As for Poway, their break will end when they face San Pasqual at 4:00 p.m. on the 23rd.
