Baseball Recap: New Providence Starts Season with Victory Against Union

New Providence had to kick off their season on the road on Tuesday, but they showed no ill effects. They blew past the Union Farmers 13-1. The Pioneers have beaten the Farmers the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Farmers has come to flipping the script.

Ethan Cifarelli spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, Michael Schmidt was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Vince Graziano, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Union's loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, New Providence will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on Oratory Prep at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Union, they will venture away from home to challenge Union Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
