Preview: Pueblo South Colts vs. Pueblo Centennial Bulldogs
Pueblo South is 9-1 against Pueblo Centennial since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Pueblo South Colts will be playing in front of their home fans against the Pueblo Centennial Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in Pueblo South's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three games.
Last Tuesday, Pueblo South was able to grind out a solid victory over Pueblo East, taking the game 66-54. Given Pueblo South's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while Pueblo East is ranked 251st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Maurice Austin was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 26 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it 12 consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Pueblo South's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Andres Cura, who scored 15 points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Pueblo Centennial, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 62-48 loss to Pueblo County on Wednesday.
Pueblo South's win bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Pueblo Centennial, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 6-6.
Everything came up roses for Pueblo South against Pueblo Centennial in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 87-47 victory. Will Pueblo South repeat their success, or does Pueblo Centennial have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
