Basketball Recap: Burley Takes a Loss

If Burley was riding high fresh off their 76-20 takedown of Wood River last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Burley Bobcats took a 68-49 bruising from the Minico Spartans on Saturday. The loss continues a trend for the Bobcats in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now lost six in a row.

Despite the loss, Burley still got an impressive performance from Nash Gillette, who posted 16 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. The dominant performance also gave Gillette a new career-high in blocks (four). Another player making a difference was Ryker Page, who earned eight points and eight boards.

Even though they lost, Burley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Burley's defeat dropped their record down to 7-16. As for Minico, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 13-9.

Looking ahead, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Bobcats challenge the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Burley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.5 points per game this season. Minico does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
