Basketball Recap: Mandeville Falls Despite Big Games from Alanna Benoit and Giulia Balbo

Mandeville easily dispatched French Settlement last Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Mandeville Skippers fell just short of the Ponchatoula Green Wave by a score of 48-45 on Friday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Skippers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 58-45 last Wednesday.

Despite the defeat, Mandeville had strong showings from Giulia Balbo, who went 5 for 9 en route to 13 points, and Alanna Benoit, who posted eight points in addition to ten boards and six assists. Benoit is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played. Camryn Mahoney was another key player, putting up four points and seven boards.

Mandeville's loss dropped their record down to 21-8. As for Ponchatoula, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-11 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mandeville will take on Slidell at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mandeville is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54 points per game this season. As for Ponchatoula, they will square off against Northshore at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
