Softball Game Preview: Waskom Wildcats vs. Elysian Fields Yellowjackets

Waskom is 1-9 against Elysian Fields since March of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Wildcats will look to defend their home field against the Yellowjackets at 5:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Waskom couldn't beat Overton on Friday even though they stacked four runs on them in the fifth inning. The Wildcats lost 19-6 to the Mustangs.

Peyton Fussell was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Elysian Fields fell victim to Beckville and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They came up short against the Bearcats, falling 14-0. The loss continues a trend for the Yellowjackets in their meetings with the Bearcats: they've now lost eight in a row.

Elysian Fields' defeat dropped their record down to 12-15-1. As for Waskom, their loss dropped their record down to 10-18.

Waskom's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. The Wildcats have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Elysian Fields, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Waskom continue to outrun the ball?

Waskom skirted past Elysian Fields 12-10 in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Yellowjackets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
