Football Recap: Monarch Takes a Loss

Monarch had to start their season on the road on Thursday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They took a 34-15 bruising from the Bolles Bulldogs. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 74th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 14th).

When it comes to explaining why Monarch lost, don't look at Florentino Lopez. Despite the final result, he rushed for 92 yards and one score, and also threw for 245 yards and one touchdown.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bolles to victory, but perhaps none more so than Xander Edwards, who rushed for 157 yards and a pair of TDs on only 12 carries. Edwards' longest rush was for an impressive 61 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Jaden Weatherly was in the mix as well, providing Bolles with two scores.

Monarch didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 48-10 victory against Deerfield Beach on the 29th. As for Bolles, they have also already played their next match, a 35-12 win against Trinity Christian Academy on the 29th.
