Softball Game Preview: San Tan Foothills Sabercats vs. Bourgade Catholic Golden Eagles

The San Tan Foothills Sabercats will face off against the Bourgade Catholic Golden Eagles at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. San Tan Foothills has given up an average of 17 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

San Tan Foothills lost 21-5 to Benjamin Franklin on Monday. The defeat continues a trend for the Sabercats in their meetings with the Chargers: they've now lost eight in a row.

Meanwhile, Bourgade Catholic had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Monday. Everything went their way against the Longhorns as they made off with a 7-1 win. The Golden Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Camila Quinonez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Maya Macias, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Riley McManness, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, one double, and one RBI.

Bourgade Catholic's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 21-7. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for San Tan Foothills, their loss dropped their record down to 4-15.
