Basketball Recap: Quiana Lavergne's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Liberty Magnet over Mt. Carmel

If Liberty Magnet was riding high fresh off their 65-29 takedown of Istrouma last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Liberty Magnet Patriots took a 40-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mt. Carmel Cubs. The Patriots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cubs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Liberty Magnet lost on Tuesday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Quiana Lavergne, who posted eight points in addition to nine boards and seven steals. Janae Byrd was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Even though they lost, Liberty Magnet smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Liberty Magnet's defeat dropped their record down to 11-13. As for Mt. Carmel, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.

Liberty Magnet wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 66-37 victory against Assumption on the 29th. Mt. Carmel has also already played their next contest (against Archbishop Chapelle), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
