The Dr. Joaquin Garcia Bulldogs are taking a road trip to challenge the Coral Glades Jaguars at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Last Tuesday, Dr. Joaquin Garcia made easy work of Santaluces and carried off an 11-1 win. Considering the Bulldogs have won three games by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Justin Rich looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk).
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Eric Flores, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Troy Burke also deserves some recognition as he got his first hits of the season.
Dr. Joaquin Garcia was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Santaluces only posted a batting average of .091.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Coral Glades). They blew past Santaluces 14-2 on Wednesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Jaguars with their most commanding win of the season.
Asa Lindo was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. Lindo was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Brayden Hoskins and Tyler Villanueva did most of the damage at the plate: Hoskins scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3, while Villanueva scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-4. Cloevens Challenger was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Dr. Joaquin Garcia's record is now 4-6. As for Coral Glades, their record now sits at 6-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Dr. Joaquin Garcia has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Coral Glades struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Dr. Joaquin Garcia came out on top in a nail-biter against Coral Glades when the teams last played back in March of 2024, sneaking past 4-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for Dr. Joaquin Garcia since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
