Basketball Recap: Wawasee Comes Up Short

After flying high against Bethany Christian last Tuesday, Wawasee came back down to earth. The Wawasee Warriors took a blow against the Warsaw Tigers on Saturday, falling 73-41. The Warriors were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 51-20.

Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ava Couture, who posted 11 points and seven rebounds. That's the most rebounds Couture has posted since back in November of 2023. Another player making a difference was Mackenzie Hackleman, who had 13 points.

It was another big night for Brooke Zartman, who earned ten points and four steals for Warsaw. Zartman has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times she's played.

Wawasee's loss dropped their record down to 10-3. As for Warsaw, they pushed their record up to 13-0 with the win, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season.

Wawasee will head out to take on Central Noble at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Central Noble will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something Wawasee surely won't give up without a fight. As for Warsaw, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against New Haven at 11:00 a.m. on January 4, 2025. One thing working in Warsaw's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
