Basketball Recap: Andru Pinyan's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Mary Walker over Republic

Mary Walker was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 60-51 defeat to the Republic Tigers. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Chargers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 66-63 back in December of 2024.

Mary Walker's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Andru Pinyan, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Lewis Adolph IV, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 boards.

Republic found their leader in freshman Landon Short, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and 20 rebounds. Short's evening made it 11 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Cameron Harris was another key player, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 14 boards.

Mary Walker's defeat dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Republic, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.

Mary Walker will challenge Valley Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mary Walker is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.3 points per game this season. As for Republic, they will square off against Selkirk at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
