Baseball Recap: Gray's Creek Continues Home Dominance on Friday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Cape Fear, Gray's Creek was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They walked away with a 9-6 win over the Purnell Swett Rams. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 15-10 on March 4th.

Mason Barnes was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dalton Williams, who scored a run while going 3-for-3. He also brought in three RBI, which is notable because Gray's Creek is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 4-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Peyton Stanton, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Gray's Creek always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Purnell Swett only posted an OBP of .364.

Gray's Creek's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-6. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 9.67 hits in those games compared to only 5.5 in the others. As for Purnell Swett, they now have a losing record of 6-7.

Looking ahead, Gray's Creek will venture away from home to square off against Triton at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Triton will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last. As for Purnell Swett, they will take on Cape Fear at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cape Fear's pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so Purnell Swett's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
