Softball Recap: Powell Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Powell extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday, bumping them up to 17-5. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the William Blount Governors, sneaking past 5-3. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Langston Coggins was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Coggins was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Coggins wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Rianna Boone, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI. Another was Gabby Kraatz, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

As for William Blount, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 19-9. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only 2.25 runs.

On William Blount's side, Trinity Johnson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Chloe Merriman was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Powell will host Maryville at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for William Blount, they will welcome Heritage at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Governors 3.2, the Mountaineers 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
