Softball Recap: Mira Mesa Takes a Loss

Mira Mesa fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Canyon Hills on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Rattlers by a score of 4-3. The Marauders were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Rattlers earlier this season, when they won 5-4.

Brooklyn Haug spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

Mira Mesa has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-14 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Canyon Hills, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season.

As of now, neither Mira Mesa nor Canyon Hills have any future games scheduled.
