Basketball Recap: Spring Creek Takes Down Ranked Dayton

On Friday, Spring Creek faced Dayton in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Spring Creek Spartans were the clear victor by a 64-42 margin over the Dayton Dust Devils. The Spartans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 22 points or more this season.

Tayden Francis continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 5 of 10 en route to 19 points in addition to seven boards and five assists. Another player making a difference was Kenny Smith, who posted eight points and six rebounds.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Spring Creek was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dayton only racked up seven assists.

Dayton's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Talan Brown, who scored 12 points along with six boards and five steals. Issac Powell also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Spring Creek pushed their record up to 11-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.0 points per game. As for Dayton, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-4 record this season.

Spring Creek didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 59-44 victory against Fernley on the 11th. Dayton has also already played their next contest, a 32-29 win against Elko on the 11th.
