Baseball Game Preview: Calhoun Cougars vs. Columbia Prep Lions

The Calhoun Cougars will head out to take on the Columbia Prep Lions at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Calhoun is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.

It was a proper cat-fight when Calhoun faced off against Browning on Wednesday. The Cougars blew past the Panthers 10-2. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Ian Abramson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up 11 Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Quentin Ruffin was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Rye Country Day typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday Columbia Prep proved too difficult a challenge. They never let the Wildcats get on the board and left with a 3-0 victory.

Calhoun is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Columbia Prep, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.

Calhoun skirted past Columbia Prep 2-1 in their previous meeting back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
