Basketball Recap: Bishop Miege Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

On Saturday, the Bishop Miege Stags didn't have too much trouble with the Lee's Summit Tigers as they won 59-41. Given the Stags' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 33rd in Kansas, while the Tigers are ranked 162nd in Missouri), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jayla McClinton was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 24 points and 12 boards. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 8.1 rebounds per game. Kirston Verhulst was another key player, going 6 for 12 on her way to 15 points in addition to seven boards and three blocks.

Bishop Miege's win bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Lee's Summit, they now have a losing record at 7-8.

Bishop Miege will challenge Notre Dame de Sion at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Notre Dame de Sion is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.6 points per game this season. As for Lee's Summit, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 65-43 defeat against Staley on the 3rd.
