Basketball Recap: New Castle Piles Up the Points Against Union City

New Castle made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Union City, but still couldn't quite topple them. The New Castle Trojans claimed a resounding 61-26 win over the Union City Indians. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 37-11.

New Castle found their leader in sophomore Mallory Owens, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 boards. Those 16 points set a new season-high mark for Owens. Alana Orr was another key player, going 5 for 11 on her way to 15 points.

New Castle smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 27 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

When it comes to explaining why Union City lost on Saturday, don't look at Oaklee Reichard. Despite the final result, she posted seven points. Lindsey Evans also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

New Castle's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-15. As for Union City, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-14.

New Castle didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 34-28 loss against Mt. Vernon on the 28th. As for Union City, they will challenge Hagerstown at 7:45 p.m. on Friday.
