Basketball Game Preview: Sound Christian Lions vs. Orcas Island Vikings

The Sound Christian Lions will take on the Orcas Island Vikings at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. The timing is sure in Sound Christian's favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Orcas Island has been banged up by nine consecutive losses on the road also dating back to last season.

Sound Christian easily dispatched Pope John Paul II on Monday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Sound Christian fell just short of Auburn Adventist by a score of 49-46 on Wednesday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Lions came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 80th, while the Falcons are ranked 325th).

Despite the loss, Sound Christian had strong showings from Kaila Brogan, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 boards, and Abby Mesler, who posted 25 points and seven steals. The game was Mesler's seventh in a row with at least ten points.

Meanwhile, Orcas Island came up short against Concrete on Tuesday and fell 58-47.

Orcas Island's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Sound Christian, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 6-1.

Sound Christian strolled past Orcas Island in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 by a score of 46-27. Will Sound Christian repeat their success, or does Orcas Island have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
