Wolcott is 2-8 against Woodland Regional since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Hawks at 3:30 p.m. Wolcott is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
Wolcott came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against St. Paul Catholic, falling 19-3.
Lauryn Sinclair made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Woodland Regional strolled into their game on Wednesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They came out on top against Holy Cross by a score of 6-1.
Ella VanAlstyne was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caitlyn Braun, who went 1-for-4 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Angelena Tottenham, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Wolcott's defeat dropped their record down to 11-5. As for Woodland Regional, their win was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-0.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Wolcott has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .443. However, it's not like Woodland Regional struggles in that department as they've averaged .548. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Wolcott suffered a grim 14-2 defeat to Woodland Regional in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
