Softball Recap: Piedmont Wins Going Away Against Hercules

Piedmont's game on Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 15-3 margin over the Hercules Titans. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Highlanders considering their one-run performance the game before.

Miya Fujimoto made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Edie Elmquist was a standout: she got on base in two of her four plate appearances with three runs and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Angelina Wu was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Piedmont has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Hercules, their loss dropped their record down to 12-7-1.

Looking ahead, Piedmont will take on Saint Mary's at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hercules, they will challenge Emery at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Titans surely won't give up without a fight.
