Basketball Recap: Triton Hawks vs. Harnett Central Trojans

Triton won the last time they faced Harnett Central and things went their way on Thursday too. The Hawks snuck past the Trojans with a 65-60 victory. The win almost wasn't to be: the Hawks were down 31-15 in the second quarter.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Triton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Gavin Matthews, who went 9-for-12 to rack up 21 points. What's more, Matthews also posted a 75% field goal percentage, which is the highest he's achieved since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jamaury Taylor, who shot 60% from the field en route to 15 points and three steals.

When it comes to explaining why Harnett Central lost, don't look at Rylan Beasley. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 14 points and 23 rebounds. Beasley is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last six games he's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Xzavien McLean, who posted ten points.
