Softball Recap: Troy Has No Trouble Against Piqua

Troy barely beat Piqua the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Trojans put the hurt on the Indians with a sharp 8-2 win on Wednesday. Considering the Trojans have won 13 contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Julia Rose spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Mimi Shaw was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Riley King, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.

Troy hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive matchups.

Troy's victory bumped their record up to 17-5. As for Piqua, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season.

Troy will be playing at home against Tippecanoe at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Piqua will be paying especially close attention to the Trojans' contest: after the Trojans face off against the Red Devils, they'll take on Piqua again at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
