Basketball Recap: Firth Drops Highest Score of Season Against Salmon

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Firth). They blew past the Salmon Savages, posting an 81-49 win. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Salmon's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Wyatt Pilkerton, who went 7 for 16 en route to 20 points and seven rebounds, and Broc Matthews, who went 6 of 15 on his way to 19 points. What's more, Matthews also racked up two blocks, the most he's had since back in December of 2023.

Firth has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.1 points per game. As for Salmon, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-11.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Firth Cougars challenge the West Jefferson Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Salmon, they will face off against Varsity Opponent at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
