Recap: Holmes Huskies vs. O'Connor Panthers
The Holmes Huskies lost against the O'Connor Panthers back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Holmes was beaten by O'Connor 58-28. While losing is never fun, Holmes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 530th, while O'Connor is ranked 213th).
Holmes' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Theresa Carvalho, who scored 5 points along with 5 rebounds, and Darlene Doboyou who scored 4 points along with 5 rebounds.
O'Connor was led to victory by Simone Pryor and Casey Chavez. Pryor scored 22 points along with 7 steals, while Chavez dropped a double-double on 15 points and 10 steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which Chavez has scored at least 25% of O'Connor's points. Jules Roberts was another key contributor, scoring 7 points along with 6 rebounds.
Holmes has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-10 record this season. As for O'Connor, their win bumped their record up to 9-7.
Holmes will be playing in front of their home fans against Warren at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Warren and Holmes are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. As for O'Connor, they will head out on the road to face off against Jay at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Jay focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 last Saturday.
