Basketball Recap: Newman Central Catholic Comes Up Short

Newman Central Catholic has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 53-48 heartbreaker at the hands of the Rockford Christian Royal Lions.

Rockford Christian's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Shea Ludwig, who went 7 for 10 en route to 18 points. Josie Becker was another key player, going 5 of 10 on her way to 11 points in addition to six assists and six rebounds.

Newman Central Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 20-9. As for Rockford Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season.

Newman Central Catholic will square off against Kewanee at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Rockford Christian, they will take on Dixon at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday. Dixon will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Rockford Christian surely won't give up without a fight.
