Basketball Recap: Salpointe Catholic Lancers vs. Mica Mountain Thunderbolts
After a string of five wins, the Salpointe Catholic Lancers's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of Mica Mountain by a score of 44-42. If Salpointe Catholic was looking for revenge after losing 61-58 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Salpointe Catholic's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Joey Castillo, who scored nine points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was M. J. Gedebou, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds.
Salpointe Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 17-8. As for Mica Mountain, they pushed their record up to 21-2 with that victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.
Salpointe Catholic will head out on the road to face off against the Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Paradise Honors has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 196 points over their last three matches. As for Mica Mountain, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Douglas will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 232nd, while the Thunderbolts are ranked 57th).
