Baseball Game Preview: Grace Lancers vs. Buena Bulldogs

The Grace Lancers will take on the Buena Bulldogs at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Grace 3.6, Buena 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Monday just wasn't the day for Grace's offense. They fell 4-0 to Windward on Monday. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Lancers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Grace saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Willis, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that Willis snagged this season.

Buena not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 29, 2024. They put the hurt on Oxnard with a sharp 9-2 win. The Bulldogs' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Andres Carrillo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on five hits.

On the hitting side, Buena let Elijah Garcia and Mason Trigo run wild. Garcia scored a run while going 1-for-3, while Trigo scored two runs while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance gave Trigo a new career-high in runs. Brody Kaylor was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.

Grace's loss dropped their record down to 4-2-2. As for Buena, their victory ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-2.

Grace was able to grind out a solid win over Buena in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, winning 4-1. Does Grace have another victory up their sleeve, or will Buena turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
