Basketball Recap: Makenzie Ricks Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat South Johnston

West Johnston lost to South Johnston back in February of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The West Johnston Wildcats sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 35-32 win over the South Johnston Trojans. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.

West Johnston's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Makenzie Ricks led the charge by putting up eight points and five boards. Ricks is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Trinity Perry Moore was another key player, scoring seven points.

West Johnston is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a massive bump to their 7-9 record this season. As for South Johnston, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-13.

West Johnston and East Wake will face off at 6:15 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. As for South Johnston, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against C.B. Aycock at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. C.B. Aycock will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something South Johnston surely won't give up without a fight.
