Preview: Southside Panthers vs. Plainview Bears
The Southside Panthers will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against the Plainview Bears on January 22nd. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Southside posted their biggest win since December 18, 2023 on Friday. They claimed a resounding 48-18 win over Alexandria on the road. Given Southside's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 36th, while Alexandria is ranked 246th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Southside relied on the efforts of Laylah Davis, who scored 13 points along with two steals, and Grace Anne rose, who scored 20 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Anne rose has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times she's played. Mallory Brooks was another key contributor, scoring four points.
Meanwhile, Plainview came tearing into Thursday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 50.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past Crossville, posting a 82-20 victory at home.
Southside's victory bumped their record up to 17-4. As for Plainview, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season.
Southside was taken down by Plainview 71-41 when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Can Southside avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
