Baseball Recap: Manchester Victorious

Manchester came out on top against Notre Dame on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fifth inning. The Greyhounds walked away with an 8-3 win over the Titans. This was payback for the Greyhounds, who suffered a 16-1 loss the last time these two teams met.

Luke Applegate made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Clayton Colvin, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Lucas Rigdon, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

The victory made it two in a row for Manchester and bumps their season record up to 12-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Notre Dame, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-11 record this season.

Manchester will be taking part in a tournament against Eastern at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Notre Dame, they will take on Portsmouth at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
