Basketball Game Preview: Taft Raiders vs. Brennan Bears

Taft is 0-10 against Brennan since January of 2020 but things could change on Tuesday. The Taft Raiders will head out to square off against the Brennan Bears at 7:00 p.m.

Taft is headed into Tuesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their ninth straight game on Friday. They took a blow against Harlan, falling 69-37. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 767th, while the Hawks are ranked 102nd).

Meanwhile, Brennan came tearing into Friday's game with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 37 points) and they left with even more momentum. They claimed a resounding 99-45 victory over the Falcons. The Bears have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 contests by 25 points or more this season.

Taft better focus on containing Camden Cowgill and Kingston Flemings as the pair were huge in Brennan's win. Cowgill went 6 of 10 from beyond the arc on his way to 24 points in addition to eight assists and six steals, while Flemings went 8 for 11 on his way to 19 points along with seven boards and six assists. Those eight assists gave Cowgill a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Talon Todd, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 13 points and three steals.

Brennan smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Taft's loss dropped their record down to 5-17. As for Brennan, their win bumped their record up to 19-2.

Taft was dealt a bruising 103-49 defeat at the hands of Brennan in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Taft was down 55-22.
