Basketball Recap: Fleming Comes Up Short

After a string of five wins, Fleming's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a blow against the Otis Bulldogs, falling 58-30. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 275th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 94th).

When it comes to explaining why Fleming lost, don't look at Travis Johnson. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 12 points and 12 boards. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down 11 or more in each of the last eight games he's played. Wyatt Sonnenberg also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Even though they lost, Fleming smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Otis only eight offensive boards.

Charlie Kendrick continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Otis, shooting 50% from the field to rack up 22 points in addition to six boards and five assists. Mitchell Stivers was another key player, putting up ten points and three steals.

Fleming's loss dropped their record down to 6-15. As for Otis, the win (which was their 15th in a row) raised their record to 17-2.

Fleming didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 48-32 victory against Lone Star on the 28th. As for Otis, they have also already played their next contest, a 40-34 win against Prairie on the 28th.
