Baseball Game Preview: Spanish River Sharks vs. Somerset Academy - Canyons Cougars

The Spanish River Sharks will square off against the Somerset Academy - Canyons Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Spanish River will be strutting in after a victory while Somerset Academy - Canyons will be coming in after a loss.

Spanish River is looking to give their home crowd another W after opening their season at home on Tuesday. They never let Westminster Christian onto the board and left with a 6-0 win.

The result came thanks to Dylan Werblow's shutout, as he gave up just a hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

On the hitting side, Spanish River saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andrew DeRosa, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, DeRosa also racked up two hits, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Another was Jason Rothberg, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one RBI.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Somerset Academy - Canyons challenged Pine Crest on Wednesday. Somerset Academy - Canyons lost 23-6 to Pine Crest. The defeat continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now lost three in a row.

Spanish River took their victory against Somerset Academy - Canyons when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 8-1. Will Spanish River repeat their success, or does Somerset Academy - Canyons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
