Two dominant signal callers in Xavier Youngblood and Cole Taylor are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Sam Houston Hurricanes will challenge the Pflugerville Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Pflugerville took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Sam Houston, who comes in off a win.
Pflugerville will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Sam Houston extended their winning streak to six two weeks ago. The Hurricanes blew past Highlands 48-24. The result was nothing new for the Hurricanes, who have now won four matchups by 22 points or more so far this season.

Sam Houston's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mivieon Franklin Ross, who rushed for 53 yards and a pair of scores on only seven carries. What's more, Franklin Ross posted two rushing touchdowns, the most he's had since back in October of 2024. Sam Houston also got a significant boost from Germaine Carson, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 102 yards.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Sam Houston was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 284 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in seven consecutive contests.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Sam Houston's defense and their five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Carson and Daron Gardner, who racked up four sacks between them.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Pflugerville challenged Pflugerville Connally on Friday. The Panthers were outmatched by the Cougars and fell 65-26. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The match pitted two dominant signal callers against one another in Taylor and Jase Watkins. Watkins had a solid game and rushed for 68 yards and one touchdown on only five carries. Meanwhile, Taylor was balling out in the loss, throwing for 268 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 12.8 yards per attempt, and also punching in one score on the ground.
Pflugerville's loss dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Sam Houston, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 6-4.
The upcoming game will be a clash of competing strengths. Sam Houston has deployed a run-first offense that has averaged 180.4 rushing yards a game.
