Softball Game Preview: Berea Pirates vs. Powell County Pirates

Berea are taking a road trip to face off against Powell County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Berea couldn't beat Model on Tuesday even though they stacked six runs on them in the sixth inning. The Pirates fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 10-9.

Meanwhile, Powell County fell victim to Lee County and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Bobcats, falling 10-0. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Pirates' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Powell County saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Presley Eplin, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. Eplin is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

Powell County's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Berea, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.

Berea might still be hurting after the 14-8 loss they got from Powell County in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. Can Berea avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
