Softball Game Preview: Jefferson Area Falcons vs. Edgewood Warriors

The Jefferson Area Falcons will head out to face off against the Edgewood Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Jefferson Area turned things around against Lakeside on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Dragons a 16-0 shutout.

Ada Sirrine was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Sirrine was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That run marked the first that she has scored this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Whitney Reed, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Allison Hill, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Meanwhile, Edgewood came tearing into Wednesday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.2 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Blue Streaks. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Warriors have posted against the Blue Streaks since April 29, 2022.

Edgewood pushed their record up to 7-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.3 runs over those games. As for Jefferson Area, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.

Jefferson Area couldn't quite get it done against Edgewood when the teams last played on Tuesday as they fell 8-4. Can the Falcons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
